I was driving to Berkeley yesterday and i came across my favorite tree - I know it's odd to say that i have a favorite tree but i do.... it's actually two trees that are in the middle of the 880 as you head into downtown Oakland. They stand out to me because they are literally the only trees in the middle of the freeway - surrounded by concrete, smog, and cars zooming past them they stand strong and healthy. That is how i feel about my life right now....
I was reminded of one of my favorite poems in my drive yesterday....
TREES
by: Joyce Kilmer (1886-1918)
I THINK that I shall never see
A poem lovely as a tree.
A tree whose hungry mouth is prest
Against the earth's sweet flowing breast;
A tree that looks at God all day,
And lifts her leafy arms to pray;
A tree that may in Summer wear
A nest of robins in her hair;
Upon whose bosom snow has lain;
Who intimately lives with rain.
Poems are made by fools like me,
But only God can make a tree.
.... only God could make me....
that's right, sista friend!
